What an exciting weekend in The Edge at North Coast Church! An anonymous North Coaster offered to match any donations up to $20,000 to help us finish building the South Africa kitchen. So far you’ve given over $9,000 and the donations keep coming in!
Introducing the OTB App!
Acts 2:42 in La Gloria
After two months of serving the community of La Gloria and two weeks of partnership
with Outside the Bowl, “Hechos 2:42” or “Acts 2:42” is already seeing great results
and the power of love in their feeding program. Acts 2:42 is a name well chosen to represent the feeding ministry that these volunteers take on each day at La Gloria. They seek, as in the days of Christ, to devote “themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer”.
Construction Update: George, South Africa kitchen
We made steady progress this past week with the site. We've had to haul several truckloads of G7 dirt onto the site in order to combat the "sponge" effect that some of the ground is producing. It is a time consuming task but necessary to ensure that the foundation will be laid properly when the time comes.
OTB & Mexico's Salvation Army
Ejercito de Salvación is a daytime childcare center for underprivileged children of single working mothers who make an effort to provide a solid future for their families. The children stay here 8-10 hours while their parents are at work. They are taught primarily about God’s love as a Father. They also do academic work, learn family and social values, and participate in recreational activities, amongst other things - all free of charge.
OTB - How it all began
In 2005, we decided it was time to stop going to church. We'd been going to North Coast Church for over 20 years, and it was time to go do church. We ended up in a small Xhosa community in South Africa. God stretched our faith as He asked us to simply "go serve." Needless to say we were clearly outsiders, but kids starting coming to our discipleship groups. It wasn’t long before some of Debra’s girls approached her one day saying “Mama Deb, can you help us? We’re hungry – we haven’t eaten in 2 days.”
"Outside the Bowl" in Haiti
Anyone who has been to Haiti will tell you how difficult it can be to "get things done" there. Barely-drivable roads, coupled with unreliable equipment and people can make it seem nearly impossible to be effective. And yet, our Haiti Country Directors and kitchen staff manage to cook and deliver over 2,000 hot meal per day (most days!).
